Just came across your blog and want to say congratulations on your Boston accomplishment.

And good luck making your choice between Steamtown and Chicago. I'll be at Chicago, but I understand Steamtown is a great race.

Good luck on your travels, running, art, and I'll look forward to reading your future posts.

This is a fascinating list!

I especially like the 16 novels. Did you read them with a lantern? The batteries are the most difficult part in my mind. What do you do with batteries in an area like that? There doesn't seem to be a way to dispose of them in a green way (I've always wondered how they "recycled" batteries).

Best one is 50 gallons of water. Impressive!

This is quite an adventure that you are finishing! It would make a beautiful illustrated book. Neil and I can't wait to go back to Ptown and we will be sure to visit the Thrift Shop.

Your water usage statistics are rather sobering, as we guiltily enjoy at least 8-min showers every day - sometimes twice. Must do something about that!

Take care - Siobhan

Hilary,

It's amazing that you've kept up your training as well as you have, given the adverse weather and running conditions. I think you'll find it won't be hard to re-adapt to road training and racing when you get back to New York. The mile repeats you describe on the Cape are pretty impressive. And the photos are fabulous!

XOX,

i'm very envious. it must be strange and nice to read about the events unfolding in iowa and nh from within this country but also from without (w/o constant media stream, debate-watching, etc.).

the coral dog pic is very cool/surreal. at first, i thought that was an old stuffed dog you found in the cabin.

Hello Hilary, I hope you remember Neil and I from the B&B on the day you started your adventure - we have been following your exploits with great interest. I'm glad the weather has been a bit better recently, although the soft sand is not so good for running. You are certainly experiencing a wide range of weather conditions! Your photos are wonderful as well as your drawings - it is amazing that you are accomplishing so much given the basic living conditions. I would probably spend all day tending the woodstove! The Cape in winter is truly an amazing place. Take care - Siobhan Krane

I am sorry, Hilary, but NONE of this sounds like fun to me. Well, maybe the ocean swim. Did you copy the camera-in-the-armpit trick from Amundsen or Byrd? Byrr-rrr. Hope the warming trend gets to you fast.

Re: Your "nature drawing." Why are we always surprised when a great artist with a highly individual style that stretches the bounds of realism--a Matisse or a Lorenz, for example--sits down and dashes off a little realistic sketch, it's beautiful?
